Spice up your workout – Introducing Studio2Barre!

Studio2Barre Hip PlieI really believe in the benefits of Pilates and I think that if you’re going to pick one discipline as a woman, Pilates should be it. However, I also believe that if you can, you should be doing multiple forms of exercise. A bit of variety can help keep you motivated and inspired and make sure you’re getting enough exercise in every week. That’s why I’m extremely excited to introduce Studio2Barre!

What on earth is Studio2Barre?!

Studio2Barre is a multi-disciplinary form of exercise, aimed at giving you an incredible cardio workout while having a lot of fun. It incorporates principles of Pilates (of course), yoga and dance at an exhilarating pace that will really improve your aerobic conditioning.

It draws much of its inspiration from the barre work that dancers do in their training and so it is also done to music. Please don’t picture anything too slow and graceful though! Studio2Barre will really get your heart rate up, blasting your body fat and toning up those muscles.  You don’t need any dance experience – just some enthusiasm!

Some of you may be wondering why we’re using chairs rather than a ballet barre in these photos. In the spirit of full disclosure, we don’t currently have a barre in our studio and it is a commonly accepted practice to use a chair for support instead – it won’t affect the quality of your workout one bit! With enough interest, we definitely will look at replacing those chairs with a proper barre in future. In the meantime, we think Studio2Barre still sounds a lot better than Studio2Chair!

When and where?

Studio2Barre will be taught as a group class at our studio in Claremont by Romy Sacks, one of our Pilates instructors who also has been certified in this type of Barre work.

To give everyone a chance to give Studio2Barre a try, we’re going to start off with 6 sessions that you can sign up for during the month of August.  You can sign up for as many sessions as you like.  Starting in September, we’ll set up a regular class schedule based on everyone’s availability.

The introductory sessions you can choose from are:

  • Tuesday, August 13th – 17:00-18:00
  • Thursday, August 15th – 19:00-20:00
  • Tuesday, August 20th – 17:00-18:00
  • Thursday, August 22nd – 19:00-20:00
  • Tuesday, August 27th – 17:00-18:00
  • Thursday, August 29th – 19:00-20:00

Even if these slots don’t work for you and you’re interested, please do let us know. We’re open to trying other times if the schedule permits and there is sufficient interest!

Please remember, space is limited and will be granted on a first-come first-served basis!

How much will it cost to try?

To keep things simple and allow everyone to try out Studio2Barre as many times as they like before signing up, we’re going to offer each class for a flat fee of R100 in August. We will ask for payment up front to secure your place.

How much will it cost going forward?

Going forward, we’re going to run Studio2Barre on exactly the same pricing structure as our group Pilates classes. Clients will pay a monthly fee in advance depending on how many times per week they want to do the Studio2Barre. Of course, you can combine these with your group Pilates classes to reduce the rate per class!

  • One class per week: R420 per month
  • Two classes per week: R750 per month
  • Three classes per week: R1060 per month

Please note that we will need to have a general attendance of at least 3 ladies in any particular time slot to maintain these rates.

How do I sign up?!
