Pregnancy pilates woman with dumbbellsExercise and pregnancy go together hand in hand. Staying fit and strong is the key to a comfortable pregnancy, to preparing your body for labour and a quick recovery after the birth. Having said this, your exercise priorities will change as your body changes throughout the 9 months.

Pilates and pregnancy go together really well because most Pilates exercises are very adaptable. The pregnancy Pilates focused exercises can be modified as the body changes and certain movements or positions become uncomfortable. A modified exercise will work the same muscles but in a way that is safe and comfortable for the mom-to-be.

Pregnancy Pilates is also one of the best forms of exercises to do to help strengthen the abdominals, back and pelvic floor muscles. This will support a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery.

It goes without saying that one should proceed cautiously when exercising during pregnancy. Don’t try new exercise forms for the first time during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor to receive the “go-ahead” before deciding to join us.

Please visit the Pregnancy Pilates series of blog posts for more information about Pilates during pregnancy as well as ideas for specific exercises to target specific areas.
