As part of a personal development goal I have set for myself both in life and professionally, reading amazing Pilates blogs and content posted by others in the know is one of the most inspiring ways for me to learn.
It really is a privilege to have access to such a wealth of knowledge these days. It’s all waiting for us, we just need to explore a bit! I would love to share a few of the amazing Pilates blogs I love with you and I hope you are left feeling inspired to journey into your own self development whether it’s as an instructor, a student of Pilates or student of life!
In no particular order, here’s a few of my favourite Pilates blogs…
The Jennifer Kries Blog
Jennifer Kries is a dancer, choreographer, author and Pilates Master Teacher. She is an amazing writer and inspires me to think about Pilates, teaching and exercise in a real artistic way – to look to the deeper meaning of what it is I’m doing. This is the first post of her’s that I read and loved. Sit back with a cup of tea and just enjoy this one. It really is beautifully written: Climb Every Mountain: The Teaser
Benjamin Degenhardt refers to himself as a movement lover, a movement teacher and a mover. Also a former dancer, movement for him is the essence of a healthy lifestyle. His style of writing is simple and warm. It is always apparent that he is coming from a place of great knowledge and love for what he does. This is a great post of his about a topic that comes up so often in our industry: Pilates and Yoga – the “mind-body” confusion
Marguerite Olge is the guide to Pilates at About.com. She has studied and taught various forms of exercise and dance for more than 30 years. She is an author, a Pilates instructor and long-time student of body/mind/spirit practices such as yoga and meditation. This site is a must-visit when you have any questions you need answering about anything Pilates-related. There is just so much information on it! Here is an informative and honest post of Marguerite’s where she answers the question of how many calories does Pilates burn: The Calories and the Pilates equation
Andrea started out as a working actress in Washington and needed a way to get into shape and stay that way. This is when she started her journey with Pilates and since then it is abundantly clear that it has become so much more than just a way to stay in shape for her! Her blog posts are so real and completely engaging. They really make me think of my Pilates practice from all sorts of different angles and her witty sense of humour always shines through! Here is a perfect example of an entertaining and informative post she wrote breaking down the order of the mat exercises while encouraging you to think about why they have been structured in this particular way: On the Order of the Pilates Mat Exercises
The Balanced Life
The Balanced Life is a Pilates inspired lifestyle site by Robin Long. Her site is filled with great recipes, exercise tips and videos as well as advice on how to live your best life in a healthy and balanced way. I stumbled across Blogilates while looking for inspiration for my own fitness routine. I was looking for a few different exercises to change things up a bit and this is how I found Cassey Ho. She is so energetic and enthusiastic, one cant help but want to bounce along with her!
